Summer 2015: Nairobi, Kenya

I spent 3 months in Kenya working as a UX Designer and Business Intern at Nairobi based HW & SAAS Startup, BRCK.

BRCK's mission is to get the 800 million unconnected in Africa online.

As a Designer at BRCK I was out in the field doing user research, working with partners to establish a pilot program for a new feature of the BRCK device, and meeting with Kenyan businesses (large and small) to onboard advertisers and acquire content for BRCK's new entertainment platform.

Out in the field, I talked to bus and motorcycle taxi (boda boda) drivers, hung out a local barber shops, and dropped in on community centers to understand what relevant content and information the BRCK platform could offer, and how we could make this content location specific. On the other side, I worked to onboard content providers and advertisers, drafting pilot programs with Unilever, OLX, and MediaCom.

It was an adventure and challenge to work as designer in a foreign country and culture, and an invaluable learning experience.
